lionbackup wizard
The lionbackup wizard is the graphical interface to the lionbackup client. It creates configurations, starts backups, restores backups and shows the log. The actual work — compressing, encrypting, transferring — is done by the client.
Set up
On first start, an assistant guides you to your first configuration:
- Provide client — the wizard downloads the client or uses an existing one.
- Project & access — enter the access token from the portal; the wizard resolves the project and storage zone from it.
- What to back up? — choose files and folders.
- Encryption — generate a key pair or choose an existing public key.
- Directories and Fine-tuning — the defaults fit in most cases.
The wizard does not store the private key (.key). Keep it separate from the
backed-up data — without it no restore is possible.
You create further configurations via the Active configuration tile at the bottom of the sidebar; that is also where you switch between them.
Back up
Under Back up, the wizard starts a run with the active configuration and shows the progress; Cancel stops it. You change sources, compression and further settings under Configuration. There, Test methods measures ZSTD, GZIP and LZMA2 on your own data and recommends one.
Restore
A restore needs a token that may read: a read token (portal → Tokens) or a download token, which the portal creates when you download a backup. A download token is valid for a single download. The backup configuration's token may only back up.
- Enter the token and Check — the wizard lists the project's backups.
- Choose the backup, the private key and the target folder.
- Restore backup.
Each backup goes into its own subfolder, named after the archive and the time of the backup; existing files are left untouched. If the key does not match, the downloaded archive stays in place, and with the right key the restore continues without a second download.
Instead of typing in the token, you can open the restore config that the portal offers with Save as file.
Help with problems
About & updates → Create a diagnostics bundle saves a text file for support: the wizard and client versions, the active configuration (without the token), the runs of this session and the log files. Attach it to your request.
